Autumn in Kyoto / 秋の京都

November has just started and a season for autumn leaves comes. Kyoto, where Questetra’s office is located, at this time of the year is the most crowded.

Wherever you go, you will find quite a number of people in Kyoto. Traffic is extremely heavy with cars from other prefectures, sightseeing buses and taxies. (The best choice for sightseeing is renting a bicycle!)
However, this year, there are vacant rooms in ryokans and hotels due to the novel influenza A (H1N1) and economic recession. As a local resident, it’s both relieving and sad…

Let me introduce one of my favorite temples – Entsu-ji, located in the North part of Kyoto. It is a rustic temple; but you can see great borrowed scenery. What is great about this temple is not just the scenery but a monk’s explanation! Recorded explanation is repeatedly played as if it’s Buddhist invocation; that is so humorous and I couldn’t help laughing. I assume temples now are trying various approaches to visitors. (Sorry, but I’m not sure if this still continues.)

11月に入りました。紅葉の季節です。我々の会社は京都にありますが、その京都が一年で最もにぎわう季節になりました。

この時期、京都は本当にすごいことになります。どこもかしこも人であふれかえります。道は他府県からの車、観光バスそしてタクシーで超ヘビーな渋滞に・・・。（観光ならレンタサイクルが一番ですよ！）
しかし今年は、新型インフルエンザと不景気の影響で、旅館やホテルにも空きがみられるといいます。地元民としては、ほっとするような、さみしいような・・・。

最後に私の大好きなお寺を紹介します。京都の北に位置する「円通寺」というお寺です。素朴なお寺ですが、素晴らしい借景を見ることができます。
借景だけでなく、ここのお坊さんによるお寺の説明がおもしろい。音声テープがまるで念仏のように延々と流れているのですが、これがやばい・・・！！つぼにはいりまくりで笑いをこらえるのに必死！最近お寺もいろんなアプローチを考えとるな～～、と思ったのでありました。（これについては、現在どうなっているかは存じませんのであしからず）
