I once visited the Google headquarters in the early summer in 2007.
The "evolution" of Google has been pretty dramatic since then. But... Ho much have I myself got "evolved"?

* 2005-09-15 First public release of Google Personalized Homepage
* 2006-08-28 Start of the Bata Service of Google Apps for Your Domain
* 2007-05-01 iGoogle (Changing the name/Gadget-compliant support)
* 2008-05-21 First public release of Google Sites @Google Apps

I am paying attention to corporate services as part of my job.
It is said, "Within a year, Google Apps gets 1-million business opportunities and 10-million users, and the increasing rate is 3000 per day." Obviously it's a mega service. I myself have been using "GAPE（Google Apps Premier Edition" for work for almost one year. I also make the most of multiple Apps domains as a volunteer. That's mouthful, but it is pretty convenient above all.

If this trend of evolution would continue, webpage design companies could not survive two or three years later. Moreover, software companies also might be expelled by Gadget technology etc.

1. Developers write HTML/JavaScript for Gadget.
2. Developers upload them to Google.
3. Users embed them on the site they like.

Gadget, which is said to be existed already 40-50 thousand, will be broadly used also in business in the near future.

- Google can manage configuration information for every user. (User Preferences API）
- Google can proxy and cache when receiving external data. (Fetching Content)
- Localization can be done by using a replace configuration file. (Message Bundle)

The next version will support full-screen view as well. Perhaps, before long, we might be spending all of our time, from work to hobbies, in iGoogle...
In this industry, we have to keep on "adapting" our core competence to the world.

2007年初夏、Google本社を訪れた事がある。
Googleの「進化」はその後も実に激しい。他方、私はどれだけ「進化」しただろうか？

仕事がら法人向けサービスには注目している。
Google Apps は一年足らずで「100万ビジネス1000万人のユーザ、日々3000件増加」と言うから、まさにメガサービスだ。かく言う私も仕事で「GAPE（Google Apps Premier Edition）」を使う様になって１年、またボランティアでも複数のAppsドメインを活用している。一言では言えないが“何せ便利”だ。

この進化を続ければ、２・３年後にホームページ制作会社は不要になるかも知れない。更にGadget技術等によってソフトウェア会社も駆逐されかねない。

1. 開発者は、Gadget用HTML/JavaScriptを書く
2. 開発者は、Googleにアップロードする
3. 利用者は、自分の好きなサイトに張り付ける

今や4・5万とも言われるGadget、ほどなく業務用にも幅広く使われる様になるだろう。

- ユーザ毎の設定情報もGoogleが管理してくれる（UserPreferencesAPI）
- 外部データ取得もGoogleがプロキシ＆キャッシュしてくれる（FetchingContent）
- 多言語化はメッセージ置換設定ファイルでできる（MessageBundle）

次期バージョンでは画面最大表示で利用できるようにもなる。例えばiGoogleの中で、仕事から趣味から、全ての時間を使うようになるのか…。
この業界、自分たちのコアコンピタンスを「順応」させ続けなければならない
